We are Emani, a technology startup backed by Antler. Our digital platform provides early warning of emerging risks in insecure cities around the world. Public sentiment and observations at scale provide the insights needed to ensure vital business continues, investments are approved, and services are delivered. We are embarking on a period of rapid growth and looking for smart, driven people to help us realise our vision. In 2021, we will pilot in two cities in Africa and Asia. In three years, we will be protecting people and property in 200 cities globally.

Success in this role

At a minimum, you can demonstrate success in:

  • Designing survey questionnaires deployed in the real world.
  • Drafting relevant questions according to research brief and adapt to cultural context.
  • Understanding of cultural contexts different from their own.
  • Applying knowledge of the issues affecting fragile/ higher risk areas of the world, especially in West Africa and South-Central Asia.
  • Confidently preparing raw datasets for analysis (handling missing values, removing duplicates).
  • Manipulating data sets in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Making sense of structured data sets using basic analytical tools and applying foundational statistical concepts.
  • Describing the relevance of insights to real world questions.
  • Creating visualisations with interactive tools such as D3 library, Dash, Plotly or others.
  • Spoken and written English, with the ability to process large amounts of written data.
  • Working with an international, interdisciplinary team.

You will exceed our expectations if you show skill/ knowledge in:

  • Designing research in fragile/ high risk settings.
  • Implementing or working in fragile/ high risk settings. 
  • Corporate security and risk functions;  community engagement; corporate social responsibility; insurance in emerging markets.
  • Coding/ automation tools such as Python, React.js and embedding of scripts into React.
  • Intermediate statistical concepts as a foundation for developing machine learning skills.
  • Any other language relevant to fragile and conflict-affected states, especially Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Farsi/ Dari, Pashto.
